Daniel Krain's Obituary
As the sun set behind Pikes Peak, in Colorado Springs CO, on August 29th Daniel “Dan” Martin Krain departed suddenly of a heart attack. Age 31 Dan had spent the previous week exploring Yellowstone NP (a location high on his bucket list) with his wife of almost 6 years Robin Davidson.
Sorely missing Daniel will be his mother and father, Kathleen “Kathy” and Bruce Krain of Camp Hill PA, who welcomed Daniel to this world in Baltimore MD on August 14th 1984. Beloved brothers Robert “Rob” and Stephen will forever keep his spirit alive through the many anecdotes of their childhood; Dan will also forever be with his niece Kaydenn who stole a piece of his heart from the first moment he laid eyes on her. Dan was the devoted grandson of maternal grandfather Robert Martin, and leaves behind many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Although Dan moved to Austin at the age of 26 and embraced Texas with open arms he always held Annapolis as his hometown in his heart, attending Hillsmere Elementary, Eastport Elementary, Magothy Middle School and graduating from Broadneck High School in Arnold MD with the class of 2002. Dan was a proud Eagle Scout from Troupe 91 who took to heart his pledge of service by dedicating himself to a career as a public safety officer first at Anne Arundel Community College (2007-2011) then with The Texas Department of Public Safety (2013-2015) after graduation from the CAPCOG Regional Law Enforcement Academy as a certified Texas Peace Officer. Dan’s dearest ambition was to become a police officer before retiring to build bird houses or run his own business.
Dan showed a passion for books and movies which guided the entire family in their selections, was a long time attendee of the Maryland Renaissance Festival (where he met his wife), and loved going on adventures (anything from a day hike in a state park to feeding sting rays in Antigua); one of his most recent passions was keeping a food and travel blog where he was quickly gaining followers. Dan had a gift for laughter and couldn’t stand to see those he cared about unhappy, his smile could light up a room although he rarely let it intentionally be captured on film, and he was truly a people person making friends wherever he went; he will leave behind more friends than there are stars visible in the sky most nights. Through small daily acts of love and caring Dan made the world a better place for all who knew him.
Final services for Dan will be held in his hometown of Annapolis MD at 4PM on Tuesday September 8th at the Eastport United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider a donation to the National Park Foundation in Dan’s memory.
