Cosandra Rae Johnson's Obituary
Cosandra Rae McGowan Johnson a.k.a “Sannie, “Ma”, “Nana”born February 25, 1959 to the late Louis McGowan Sr, and, Naomi Elaine Jones Elliott entered eternal rest unexpectedly on May 2, 2012 at the Baltimore Washington Medical Center.
Being educated in the Anne Arundel County School System Cosandra was loved and cherished by all who knew her. She became a mother to all. Having a hand in all children that crossed her path, through her duties as a caretaker, she also affectionately cared for her nieces, nephews, cousins and especially her grandchildren. Her latest duties consisted of five little guys (Devyn, Xiani, Dean, Darien, Ximri) whom she would call “Her Boys”. Nothing made her happier than opening her home to all who needed. She devoted her time to her children. And on more than one occasion if you were to call her she would say “What you need? I’m at Walmart.”
Besides having a great love of children she spent her days loving for and tending to her plants which became not only a hobby but a method to give her a peace of mind. She opened the Monster Snack Shop out of the love she had for her community and the wellbeing of the children inside of it. She also was the treasurer of the Meade Village Tenant Council.
After two of her children brought news to her of the goodness of the Lord and her wanting to see what her children were getting into she accepted Jesus Christ into her life (April 6th, 2002) . And quickly thereafter became a member of Untied Brethren for Christ Inc where she opened her home to start the Meade Village Prayer Fellowship.
She is preceded in death by her father Louis McGowan Sr. Her step father Elmer D. Elliott brother Derwin McGowan, nephew Steve E Holland and her beloved friend Ollie F. Pratt. In her absence she leaves behind her mother Naomi Elliott, seven children; Norman Edward Johnson Jr./Rocelle Johnson, Cornell Johnson (father of “Cornell Kids”)/Marcia Johnson, Troy Taylor (Doobie), Danielle Taylor (Mummie), Courtney Monroe (Court)/Ramon Monroe, Keisha Howard, and Deirdre McGowan (Biggie). Three brothers Louis McGowan, Kelvin McGowan Reginald McGowan, and two sisters; Dorcell Holland, Theresa McGowan. She also leaves 27 grandchildren and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
Little Did We Know
Little did we know that morning that God would call your name. In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you , you did not go alone. For part of us went with you the day God called you home. You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide. And though we cannot see you, you are always on our side. Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same. But as God calls one by one, the chain will link again.
Poem for Nana
To my dearest darling Nana,
Up in Heaven , high above,
I know today your with us all,
And sending all your love.
Today we all remember you,
And bid you one last goodbye,
Celebrate the life you’ve had
And maybe have a cry.
You’ll never be forgotten Nan,
I’ll just close my eyes and see,
Your smiling face and feel your love,
And you’ll be close to me.
You has such a long life,
So many have so less,
It was your time, the Angels came,
And placed you with the best.
So dear Nana, up above
Although you’re no longer here,
In my heart is where I’ll keep you,
Forever, you’ll be near.
