Cathy Janna O’Connell passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2011. She was 55. Cathy was the daughter of Edward and Sharon O’Connell. She was a beautician, and the owner of Insights Hair Salon in Crofton, MD. Cathy enjoyed her two cats Read Obituary
I am so shocked to just hear about Cathy's passing. Since I was a small child Cathy was always known to me as Aunt Cathy. Aunt Cathy was such a wonderful loving woman whom I will miss dearly........ Love you Aunt Cathy
Oh my...I am so sorry. I just found out from the Crofton West County Gazette. I first met Cathy 12 years ago as my hair stylist and she soon became a fast friend. I always looked forward to talking with Cathy and chatting about our husbands and all the happenings in our lives. I enjoyed our friendship and hugs. Cathy was a talented hair stylist, smart, a true professional business person, that I held in the highest regard. I respect the strength of character it took to start a business and then keep it going through such tough times economically and personally. She was so hard working and never let on about how bad her difficulties were. Just a few months ago, Cathy came back from Florida visiting her brother, and brought back for me a pair of drumsticks from the Hard Rock Cafe'. I just started to learn to drum at 55, and she thought of me while on her vacation. I could hardly believe it, but that was Cathy, always thoughtful, caring, and a truly loving person. I am so honored and blessed to have had such wonderful moments with Cathy. Cathy is a beautiful soul. I will always miss her and cherish the warm memory of our hugs before parting. Cathy will forever be my first thought as I pick up my drumsticks to play. My prayers, my thoughts, my love go out to you Chris and family.

It was so hard to hear about Cathy's passing. I called to make an appointment, and her husband, Christ, told me about it. I could not believe it. She was my stylist for several years. I always looked forward to see her and talk to her whenever I made an appointment to have my hair done. It was really pleasant to share time with her. She was a very special person. She never lost her polite disposition, always kind and pleasant. Cathy was a very classy lady, beautiful inside and out. I will miss her so much. My deepest condolence to her husband and her family.

Cathy was very ill with scleroderma for more than a decade. She never felt sorry for herself, and she never complained about her illness. She was determined to live her life as normal as possible and to enjoy it as much as she could. Her loving husband, Cris, was with her and helped her achieve all of this and more. She worked very hard and had her own business during this time. She was very proud of her business (Insights Hair Salon in Crofton, Maryland). Near the end of her life, very ill with scleroderma and cancer, Cathy was still trying to work and run her salon (she wouldn't have had it any other way). She always worried more about her family and friends then she did herself. I will miss Cathy's wonderful smile and her fun, easy-going personality. She always did everything she could to try and make you feel comfortable. She had such a calming and caring way about her. I loved her and enjoyed her company so very much! She was also a very talented artist and decorator (her house is beautiful inside!).

I first met Cathy when I was working in Village Green by her shop. She came to our Open House and when I met her I knew that a friendship was happening. She was a rare person, and I never knew her to ever say anything derogatory towards anyone. It was always a pleasure to stop by and chat with her when both of us were caught up and had free time. On more than one occasion we shared some laughs about life in general. She was great at her profession and had such a compassionate demeanor towards other people. If she liked you then you had a great friend! I had the pleasure to meet her husband Crist and that was a "match made in Heaven" as some would say. We always had a fun time whenever we got together with them.
Cathy you are missed. Your warmth, personality and graciousness will always be remembered. May the road rise up to meet you and the sun shine gently upon your face.

I was one of Cathy's clients and only knew her for a little over a year. I knew after the first visit with her that I would be a long term client of hers. Not only because she was fabulous at doing hair, but because she was such fun to spend time with. Our personal lives had similarities and it was so easy and enjoyable to chat with her. I could tell from day one that this was one of the kindest people I had ever met. We loved to chat about our shared love of being on the water, boating and especially sharing our similar dreams of retiring somewhere warm near the water. It's a comfort to know that Cathy is no longer suffering and at home with her heavenly father. Goodbye Cathy, I will miss your sweetness and kindness so much.
