Catherine R. Wilde's Obituary
On May 25, 2025, Catherine R. Wilde, age 97, of Annapolis, MD, died peacefully at home on a beautiful, clear morning, surrounded by loving family members.
She was born on November 6, 1927 in Baltimore, MD, to Nannie C. and William A. Rinehart. At an early age the family moved to Lothian, MD, where she lived until she graduated from Southern High School. After graduation she moved to Shady Side, married, raised her children and taught at Shady Side Elementary School.
Even after becoming a single mother and teaching full time, she attended evening and summer classes and proudly earned a Master’s Degree from the University of Maryland. She enjoyed local social activities, her monthly women’s club and gallivanting with her good friend Alice.
After being a dedicated teacher for 42 years, she retired and moved to Heritage Harbour in Annapolis where she enjoyed activities at the Senior Center, the Heritage Harbour Community Center and volunteered at Anne Arundel Medical Center. She was a lover of the arts; reading and traveling on art trips in the US and abroad. She was a Baltimore sports fan and didn’t miss watching a game.
Catherine is survived by her four children Cathy Zeigler of Alexandria, VA, Joe Wilde (Debbie) of Annapolis, Aleta Humphreys of Prince Frederick, and Pam Rose (Buddy) of Port Republic, MD.
She was the matriarch of four generations and is survived by 10 grandchildren; Liz, David, Nancy, Megan, Michael, Eric, Katie, Willie, Louie and Jeremiah, 14 great grandchildren; Brett, Cody, Taylor, Brooke, Rachel, Kylie, Ricky, Michael, Alexandra, Troy, Zurie, Mercy, Josie and Michael and 4 great-great grandchildren; Anthony, Cody, Jr, and “the twins” Boone and Cole.
She is survived by her sister, Joan Lockard of Detroit MI and nephew Scott. Her brother Bill Rinehart of Lothian, predeceased her, but is survived by his wife, Bett, and a niece and nephew, Melissa and Rocky.
She had a kind and gentle spirit and will be remembered for the unconditional love she gave to all members of her family. She was a treasure.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at Mt. Zion Church, 122 Bayard Rd, Lothian, MD, on Saturday, June 28 at noon. Visitation with family will precede the service and begins at 10 a.m.
