Carol Joyce Sappington's Obituary
Carol Joyce (Schulz) Sappington of Annapolis, MD passed away on December 17, 2023. She was 78 years old.
She was born in Baltimore City, MD on March 10, 1945, the daughter of the late Albert August Schulz and Rose Teresa (Feiler) DiPaula.
She graduated from Catonsville Senior High School and went on to work for the US National Security Agency, Fort Meade, MD for five years. Carol then worked as an office manager for McDonald, Cassidy, and Roth psychology practice for the remainder of her career.
In 1965, Carol relocated from Arbutus, MD to the Whitehall Beach Community in Annapolis to be closer to her mother and stepfather. She then relocated to Whispering Woods in Annapolis. She was a member of Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Baltimore, the Cape St. Claire Methodist Church in Cape St. Claire, Annapolis, MD and then attended Wye Bible Church, Grasonville, MD for the last 20 years.
Carol was never seen without her lipstick and accessories – she was always dressed her very best, and loved dressing for the holidays and seasons. Her favorite place was the beach where she had vacationed as a small child with her parents, grandmother, aunts, uncles and cousins. Carol continued to share this love with her family and friends. She cherished her beloved home on Blossom Tree Drive in which she created her own beautiful haven. She loved her family deeply, attending her grandchildren’s events to cheer them on. Carol also enjoyed cooking and entertaining for all of her loved ones. One of Carol’s favorite past times was to go out with her friends for lunch or dinner. She enjoyed collecting Brass bells, unique beautiful teapots and Antique clocks. Carol also enjoyed shopping at Estate sales, yard sales, thrift stores where she could always find that special something for her family and friends. Carol enjoyed playing the slots at the casinos and on cruise ships. Cruising was her favorite way of vacationing.
Carol met her long term companion, Franklin J. Johnson of over 30 years in Lake Gaston, NC on a blind date. Carol and Franklin enjoyed working together on home projects, antiquing, auctions, and vacationing together. Her routine was to depart work to drive and visit Franklin. He always had a cocktail in hand awaiting her arrival. They would then board his pontoon boat to watch the sunset together. Later in the years Carol surprised Franklin with a beautiful Sheltie puppy who they named Daisy May. Daisy May grew to be the love of their lives.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Rose Theresa (Feiler) DiPaula, her father, Albert August Schulz, her stepfather, Anthony “Tony” L. DiPaula and her longtime companion, Franklin J. Johnson.

(Sappington) Hilliard (Lawrence) of Clearwater, FL; granddaughter, Amanda Rose DuClos of Rock Hall, MD; and grandsons, Noah C. Cramer and Jesse A. Cramer both of Centreville, MD; great granddaughters; Abrielle and Amelia Walters.
Carol will never die as long as those whom she loved never forget her.
