Carol W. Fritz's Obituary
Carol Wright Fritz, 80, of Maryland, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025. Born on June 25, 1945, in Virginia, Carol lived a life full of compassion, creativity, and joy that touched countless hearts.
Carol dedicated much of her career to serving others, working with the Humane Society and later at the Navy Fleet & Family Support Center, where her empathy and warmth made a lasting impact. Her deep love for animals was a constant throughout her life—she shared her home with both cats and dogs over the years and advocated for their care and well-being.
Known to many as “Flutterby,” Carol brought comfort and healing to grieving children through her work with Hospice’s Camp Nabi, where she used her gentle spirit and butterfly symbolism to help young hearts heal. Butterflies remained a powerful and personal symbol of transformation and hope throughout her life.
Carol’s vibrant personality shone through in her many creative pursuits. She was a clown, puppeteer, and actress, delighting audiences in local plays and musicals. Her artistic talents extended to painting and drawing — often with “sneaky-good” results. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially vacations to Ocean City, trips to Canada, and cherished time spent in Hawaii.
To those who knew her, Carol was more than a mother, grandmother, or friend—she was a light. Whether called Ms. Fritz, Mom Fritz, Ms. Carol, Fritzy, or Nana, she was known for her kindness, humor, and unwavering love.
Carol was predeceased by her beloved daughter Katie Fritz and her brother Ned Wright. She is survived by her son Kevin Fritz, daughter-in-law Lemore Fritz, and her treasured grandchildren Violet and Griffin Fritz, along with several wonderful cousins who held a special place in her heart.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, November 3, 2025, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM EST at Lasting Tributes, 814 Bestgate Rd, Annapolis, MD 21401. Friends and family are invited to gather, share memories, and honor the beautiful legacy Carol leaves behind.
