Bruce Reed Marler's Obituary
"He will wipe every tear from their eyes. ... There will be no more death' or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." Revelation 21:4 NIV
With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to Bruce Reed Marler, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who peacefully departed this life on Thursday, July 6, 2023, after bravely facing a lengthy illness.
Born on December 2, 1946, in Logan, Utah, Bruce was the third child of four children, a loving son of the late Reed Taylor Marler and Evelyn Baird Marler. He grew up in Logan, Utah, where he attended elementary and high school.
Bruce's passion for history led him to major in the subject, and he also dedicated himself to ROTC. In January 1966, he embarked on a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Northern Ireland, retracing the steps of his ancestors. After completing his mission, he attended Utah State University, graduating with a degree in Political Science from the Department of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences in June 1971.
As a young man, Bruce's dedication to his country led him to join the Army during the Vietnam era. Commissioned as an Officer, he served with distinction, rising to the rank of Captain in the Reserves. His service took him to Fort Gordon, Georgia, and Fort Meade, Maryland, where he played a vital role in the Military Police (race relations).
Throughout his life, Bruce held significant positions in various companies, leaving a positive impact on the lives of those he encountered. His love for politics and current events facilitated lasting relationships with individuals from different walks of life. As an entrepreneur, he founded Barons Executive Search International and later explored ventures as a real-estate agent and an insurance agent.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Bruce had an insatiable wanderlust. Traveling with family and friends, he explored the world, imparting his vast knowledge of history to all who accompanied him. His presence and wisdom brightened each place he visited, leaving a lasting impression on those lucky enough to be part of his journeys.
Bruce was a devoted family man, finding joy in the company of his beloved wife of thirty-seven years, Beverly, and their loving children and grandchildren. Known affectionately as the "donut fairy," he delighted in rising early to surprise everyone with freshly made donuts, filling their mornings with warmth and love.
Bruce is survived by his beloved wife Beverly, loving daughters Autumn and Rae (Brady, son-in-law), sons Rex (Natalie, daughter-in-law), Max (Krista, daughter-in-law), Klye Thomas, and Tyrone Washington II (stepson); two sisters Judy Perry (Dallas), Tauna Ralphs (Randal), one brother Larry who preceded him in death three sister in laws VeAnn Maler, Brenda Johnson and Matsudo Parker (Alford); and three other bother in laws - Stanley, Thurman, and Steven (Deanna), and his loving mother in law – Frances George.
His memory will forever be cherished by his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, in-laws, extended family, and countless friends. Bruce's legacy lives on through the love he shared and the kindness he bestowed upon all who knew him.
