Brett C. Griffith's Obituary
Brett Clayton Griffith, 58, passed away at his home in Crofton, Maryland on June 15, 2024.
He was born in Washington, DC on May 25, 1966, the son of Kenneth Morgan Griffith and Nancy (Dobbins) Griffith. Brett attended Bowie High School, graduating in 1984, followed by 6 years of service in the U.S. Army. Brett went on to obtain a culinary degree from Johnson & Wales University, completing in 1994.
Brett married the love of his life, Shelly, on September 9, 1999. They raised their 4 children together – Taylor, Kaytlan, Zachary and Ryan. They loved the beach and took many trips to the ocean. Brett and Shelly also enjoyed traveling and sightseeing to various places, including Niagara Falls, Dominican Republic, Disney World with the family, and for their grown-up visits touring various breweries.
Brett loved DC sports – Washington Redskins and the Washington Nationals. He seized every opportunity to take one or both of his sons to baseball games and loved those rare occasions he got to see a Redskins game. Brett was quite an athlete himself – specifically an amazing swimmer, still maintaining some unbeaten records from his high school days.
Brett had a love of music that spanned many genres – rock and roll, Motown, Classic Rock. His “bucket list” trip that his family took him on a few months ago was to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio.
Brett is survived by his wife, Shelly, his daughter, Kaytlan Reitz (Lt. Andrew Reitz, USN), Zachary Griffith, Ryan Griffith, his stepdaughter, Taylor Davis and his grandson, Noah James. He is survived by his father, Kenneth Griffith and his brother, James Griffith (Danielle Griffith). Predeceased by his mother, Nancy Griffith and his sister, Melanie Griffith.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 20 from 10:00 am until the start of Brett's service at 12:00 pm.
