Bette Gene Malamphy's Obituary
The children of Bette Gene Malamphy, 93, would like to inform family and friends that she has shed her earthly pain and answered God’s call to eternal life.
Born on November 4, 1929 in Hagerstown, Maryland to Betty C. Cuneen, she departed this life on March 30, 2023, following an extended period of residence at Denton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Denton, Maryland.
Bette married George Edward Malamphy, Jr. on August 30, 1947 and went on to have 3 children. They set up housekeeping in Hagerstown, MD and eventually moved to the Annapolis, MD vicinity, returning to Hagerstown to own and operate Tammany Inn. In later years the couple resided in Naples, Florida until the time of George’s death on March 14, 2005 when she returned to Maryland’s Eastern Shore and took up residence at Terrapin Grove, Stevensville, Maryland, in close proximity to her oldest child.
Bette’s professional career spanned the years from Eyerly’s Department Store, Crownsville State Hospital, Tammany Inn until she found her true calling in real estate with Long & Foster Realtors on the Eastern Shore and later with the Naples Estates Homeowners Association.
Bette leaves behind her cherished family. Children: Patricia (Daniel) Gannon – Queenstown, MD, Angela Viar – Hagerstown, MD and George Malamphy III – San Francisco, CA. Great Grandchildren: Bert and Ben Schrecongost, Caroline and Grayson Smith, Keefer Pullen, Isaac, Jordan and Chloe Evanson, and Aloysius and Remy Baker.
Bette’s last request was that the family gather to celebrate her life over a meal because her life centered around family and hospitality. She was an exceptional cook and she shared her culinary expertise with family regularly. Interment of her cremains will take place at the convenience of the family.
Although she is gone from our lives, we will forever hold her in our hearts.
