Athelda Jean Turner's Obituary
Athelda Jean Turner of Annapolis, MD was called to rest on June 30, 2011 making a peaceful transition at her home with family at her side. She was 62.
Mrs. Turner was born in Annapolis, MD on January 20, 1949. She was affectionately known as “Yina”. Athelda was preceded in death by her mother, Evelyn Cooper and father, Edward “Sonny” Poynter. She was employed by the Anne Arundel County Board of Education as a Teacher’s Assistant for over thirty years, retiring in 2009. Athelda enjoyed spending time with her family. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, decorating her home, watching game shows and taking short pleasure driving trips. Athelda believed the foundation of family was based on love for God, and love and support for one another.
Those who will cherish her memory include her two daughters, Lisa Turner and Shiree Turner; former husband, Leon Turner; three grandsons, Rian Wade, Branden Hebron and Britton Hebron; four sisters, Terrie Griffith, Marcia Simms, Desiree Roberts, Carla Banks; four brothers, Kiyoshi Poynter, Willie Cooper, Vaught Cooper and Marshall Cooper; Aunt, Drucilla Holmes and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. She also leaves behind devoted cousin, Elaina Carroll and friends, Wanda Parker and Idamae Sims.
A funeral service will be held at Lasting Tributes Cremation and Funeral Care, P.A., 814 Bestgate Rd. Annapolis, MD on Friday, July 8, 2011 at 11 AM. A visitation will be held one hour prior to funeral services. Burial will immediately follow funeral services at Bestgate Memorial Park Annapolis, MD.
