Ann Marie Thornton's Obituary
Annie Thornton passed away on August 7 from pancreatic cancer. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Brian Leney, and her daughter Julia Thornton Leney, as well as her stepsister Jamison Brumm, stepbrother-in-law Bill Brumm, and step-mother Patsy Thornton. Annie and Brian moved to Annapolis in 1998 as Annie was winding down from a 20-year career in large-scale project management at American Management Systems, and ready to expand their family. Julia is the native Annapolitan of the family and the source of deep joy to both parents. Annie eventually joined Annapolis-based TRACE International as their Director of Operations until her retirement in 2020. Annie loved her family, her friends, her pets, boating on the beautiful Chesapeake Bay, reading, and gardening. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins would be appreciated, www.hopkinskimmelgiving.org. A celebration of life is planned for late afternoon Saturday, September 17 in Annapolis. If you would like to attend, please e-mail Brian at [email protected] with your name, phone number, and number of people attending. Brian will provide details.
Being a Tolkien fan, the closing song of "The Hobbit" resonated with Annie's journey:
Night is now falling
So ends this day
The road is now calling
And I must away
Over hill and under tree
Through lands where never light has shone
I turn at last to paths that lead home
