Ann Marie Martin's Obituary
Ann “Annie” Marie Martin, nee Ryan, is resting in peace and comfort after battling multiple health conditions. She slipped away peacefully on July 7, 2025, in Annapolis, Maryland.
Annie was born on September 29, 1950, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Paul and Marie Ryan. She was the fifth of six children. Raised in a Roman-Catholic household, Annie attended Saint Bartholomew Catholic Church and school, then Sacred Heart High School, graduating in 1968. She attended Slippery Rock University, where she graduated with a Teaching degree in 1971 followed by a Master’s Degree in Education in the late 1980’s, ultimately receiving her Principals Papers and becoming a Curriculum Director. Annie taught social studies, math and reading for more than 35 years throughout the Pittsburgh area in various capacities.
Annie truly loved to travel. Her travels took her to Greece, Costa Rica, Argentina, Ireland, Australia, cruised the North Sea, Alaska, and the Caribbean. Of all her travels, Florida was her happy place – Anna Maria Island, specifically – where she spent many winters, visits, and vacations with her best friends and family.
Upon retiring, Annie moved to Annapolis, Maryland, to be closer to family. She became a regular at her grandchildren’s schools, volunteering and assisting in the classroom as often as possible. Lovingly referred to by her grandchildren as “Nanny,” Nanny was also adopted by all the children whose classrooms she helped in. Even the teachers called her Nanny. She also became a staple at the Arnold Senior Activity Center, where she volunteered several days a week. In her spare time, she loved exercising her mind by completing puzzles and sudokus.
Annie was preceded in death by her parents and brother Paul. Those left to cherish her memory are her twin daughters , their husbands and children: Megan, Leif, Makaila, Adelynn, and Elaina; Tori, Jason, Ava, Isla, and Marcus; and her four sisters, Kathy, MaryEllen (Sis), Ginger (Gin) and Michelle (Mic) and extended family. Per her request, no memorial service was held and she asked that her life be celebrated.
