Alma Ernestine Johnson's Obituary
Alma Ernestine Harris Johnson entered into eternal rest unexpectedly on Sunday, March 9, 2014. Alma’s death will leave a vacant spot in our midst and a lasting sorrow in our hearts. Alma “Aunt Al,” by her family and friends, was the daughter of the late Janie and Orlando Harris. She was born in the Skidmore area on July 16, 1925 and educated in the public schools of Annapolis. As a young woman, Alma left Annapolis to begin a new life and career in New Jersey. She was employed with the Cooper Hospital in New Jersey until she retired. Upon her retirement, Alma returned to Annapolis to care for her sister Carrie and niece Peggy.
Alma joined Asbury Broadneck United Methodist Church during her younger years and rejoined the church when she returned from New Jersey. In her later years, Alma enjoyed going to the Arnold Senior Center. She loved going on trips and activities from the center, and the new friends that she met. She always loved to have a one-way conversation with the family dog, Twinkles – who always knew that the van was there to pick her up.
Left to cherish her memories is her brother Sheldon Harris and sister-in-law Dorothy Harris; her caregivers, Martin and Valerie (Hedda) Jones, Malcom and Mjay Jones, and a host of other nieces, nephews, and family; and a devoted friend, Deloris Green.
Alma was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Harris; sisters, Trudy Schofield, Beatrice Davage, Nancy Harris, Dorine James, and Carrie Green.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to be made in Alma's honor to the National Kidney Foundation of Maryland, http://kidneymd.org/ych/donate/index
