Allan "Butch" Suing, Jr.'s Obituary
Allan James “Butch” Suing, Jr., 56, of Sherwood Forest, MD passed away peacefully on May 3, 2022 in Annapolis after a lifelong battle with severe lung disease. He was born to Christy M. and the late Allan J. Suing at the Naval Academy Hospital on April 1, 1966. He grew up in Crofton, while he graduated from Severn School in Severna Park. He attended college at the University of Denver and University of Maryland system. A genius mind, he was most interested in how things were built, and his career spanned from building computer networks and companies to homes, including the Suing family home where he lived his final years.
Butch was first and foremost a family man. His world revolved around his children and grandchildren. He was also caretaker for his parents for many years, which allowed his father to stay in the family home until his passing last year. Butch was an avid reader and loved to cook and enjoy good food. Family meals were a staple, and during the pandemic, he started a tradition of “parking lot dinners” meeting his kids for carry out food and visiting in the car.
Butch was also a huge sports fan. He spent many a weekend fishing with his father and friends on the Severn and Chesapeake. He attended NASCAR races annually. For most of his life, he attended Maryland football and basketball games, and would follow the Terrapins across all sports. He was a die-hard Raiders fan, a throw-back from the few years the family lived in California while he was young. He was gregarious and jovial. A jokester as well as incredibly kind. He always put others first.
Butch married Jill Thomasson in 1996. He is survived by Jill of Edgewater; his sister Karen Suing Kelley and husband Gregory Kelley of Edwards, CO; his mother Christy of Sherwood Forest; daughters Larson of Severn and Merrily of Edgewater; son Jack of Edgewater; and two grandchildren Leo and Ainsley.
Memorial contributions may be made to an educational fund for his children at https://gofund.me/ede82a05. A celebration of Butch’s life will be held at 2PM on Sunday, June 5 at the Sherwood Forest Club House. Please contact [email protected] to request the gate code for entry.
