Alice Jean Roscher's Obituary
On February 3, 2017, Alice J. (DeSantis) Roscher passed away peacefully after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Karl W. “Dutch” Roscher and her brother, the late Donald DeSantis.
She is survived by her children, Karla McCarty, Karl R. Roscher, Edie Cratty, and their spouses, Thom, Robin and Kevin; one grandson, Jack Cratty, all of Annapolis, MD; her cousin Harry D. “Beau” Flagle, of Studio City, CA and many cherished friends.
Alice, the daughter of the late Edith (Wilsoncroft) DeSantis and Ralph P. DeSantis, was born on April 17, 1931, in Monongahela, P.A. Shortly, thereafter, her family moved to Alexandria, VA eventually settling in Washington, D.C., where she attended Central High School, as a graduating member of the class of 1949. She went on to work for Morrel Meats, as a secretary for the late John Morrel.
In 1955, Alice met her future husband, Dutch, at a party. They were married in Annapolis on July 4, 1959 and purchased their home on Crab Creek. She became a full-time wife and mother in 1962, devoting herself to her home, family and friends.
In 1973, Alice began volunteering at Mills-Parole Elementary School, and was then hired as a Reading Resource Aide. She spent 20 years at Parole, loving every minute shared with her students. She was especially honored to have worked under former principals, Walter S. Mills, and Richard Colbert. Later, in her “Retirement” life, she began part-time work at Christmas Spirit, in Annapolis, where she worked until the store closed its doors. Her joy came from helping customers, as well as, working for the Chappalear family.
Alice was a bright, kind and exceptionally funny lady. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved spending time at Crab Creek with family and friends, especially being a loving “Meme” to her grandson, Jack.
She enjoyed sunbathing, steamed crabs, a good party, travels with family and friends, a little gambling, crossword puzzles, Redskins Football, her beloved dog “Daisy Mae”, a good laugh and QVC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Blue Ridge Great Pyrenees Rescue and Education at 12600 Thompson Rd., Fairfax, VA 22033
