Albeatrice Louise Hicks' Obituary
Albeatrice Hicks was born on May 1, 1934, in West Virginia, the only child of the late William Holland and Frances Ella Hariston Price. She was affectionately called “Bea” by those who knew and loved her. Albeatrice fell asleep in death on June 29, 2022, in her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was educated at Garnet High School of Charleston, WV and graduated in 1952. In her earlier years, Albeatrice started working briefly at the hospital where she was a housekeeper and during this time, she reconnected with an old high school classmate Matthew Hicks. After six months of captivating her attention they fell in love and were married on September 4, 1955. During this beautiful 66- year union, a child was born – Matthew Price Hicks II.
She then became a full-time housewife and mother to her devoted husband and son whom she was very protective of. Albeatrice never had a personal Bible study. However, she learned the truth about Jehovah God by accompanying her husband as he conducted Bible studies with others. Bea later became an avid reader of the Bible and was baptized on January 1959 in Gandyville, WV as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
She was a very devoted, caring, loving and supportive wife, mother, and grandmother and friend. Her love for Jehovah and the ministry deepened as she continues to pioneer for many years aiding several people in the truth even despite facing many adversities in her life with her health. She rarely missed a meeting for the ministry. She was a good friend who was straightforward, “tell it like was yet very encouraging to others” kind of sister. She often spoke her mind; her husband and friends can confirm that. Bea was very hospitable, welcoming many to stay in her home even if they slept on couch.
She really enjoyed reading, playing Words With Friends, Scrabble, and dancing with her life partner, Matthew. She had a great memory, and she was very thrifty. Albeatrice was truly a compliment to her husband for 66 years. The big question is now who is going to keep Matt straight and tell him “you know better than that?”
She will be greatly missed by her loving family, and she will always be remembered in our hearts. She was predeceased in death by her father, William Holland, mother, Frances Ella Hariston Price, and half-brother James Hariston.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, Matthew Price Hicks Sr., her son, Matthew Price Hicks II daughter -in-law, Karen Hicks, three grandchildren; Davon Akeem Odems, Kiera Denise Neal and Myesha Kaprice Nicholas (spouse Monel Nicholas), four great grandchildren, Royal Odems, Mya Nicholas, Kingston Odems, and Raine Odems, brother-in- law, nephews, nieces, and many dear friends.
