I taught ASCE courses with Rod and enjoyed his knowledge and company. Generously, he sent me an Eagles coat and I returned the favor in the form of a Penn State coat. So sad to hear of his passing.

He is and always will be my dad and the best dad in the universe!!! I miss him every second…
He had honor, character, courage, drive and was loyal to the end. I learned so much from him - it is hard not having him a phone call, flight or drive away. I try not to have regrets cause what’s the point… I do wish I’d spent more time with him. I was away too long. Sorry pop. I cherished every moment with you and now cherish the memories!!

I worked with Rod at EPA. He was the urban guy and I was the agricultural guy. He was the veteran and I was the rookie. Despite that, we never competed. We always collaborated. Rod was a good friend and someone I always respected. We got together with Robert Goo and John Kosco after both Rod and I had retired. He was a devoted public servant and much more. A huge loss, but a great legacy. He will be missed. He contributed much to improving America’s environment.

Theresa and I have known Rod for 55 years. I met Rod when we both began work at the Naval Ordnance Station (Propellant Plant back then) in 1966. We lived in the same apartment complex, Wilson Towers on Indian Highway in Maryland. There was a group of us that worked there and we all became good friends as did our wives. From that time we spent many good times together, parties and get together at Sams, Bobs and George’s. All good memories that are what life is all about.
We, along with Don and Diane, went to many plays and theatrical events together with Rod and Trish, and too many dinners to count. Rod, Trish, Theresa and I would meet at Denny’s for the grand slam breakfast or at the casino in Harrington for the buffet. The four of us spent many evenings playing Pinochle.
Memories that will live with us.
Rod was a good and lifelong friend and Theresa and I will miss him.

Rod Rest in Peace,

I first met Rod on the street in Annapolis MD at a meeting to talk about coastal water pollution and the Chesapeake Bay. This guy I didn't know came up to me and started talking to me on the street and make odd jokes about how I was going to be working on nonpoint source pollution and protecting water quality. I didn't know him from Adam and then he revealed that I would be working under him as my section chief. Totally out of the blue. I hadn't heard of him, interviewed with him and had no idea I'd be working with him for the next 20 plus years. Rod was like that. He had a quirky sense of humor which was sometimes off color, but we got along fine even though we didn't agree on politics. Overtime Rod became my work wife. We confided in each other, cajoled each other and supported our joint efforts to drive environmental change. You could often hear us arguing over the cubicles and management had to intervene to get us to tone it down. Rod wanted to take out life insurance on me because of my daredevil exploits and I had to lecture him about getting his heart checked out due to chest pain.

Rod and I were a good team. He provided the technical engineering expertise and I helped figure out how we could get support, communicate the topic and develop products and programs that would advance change. Rod and I worked on supporting the then new concept of Low Impact Development that Larry Coffman at Prince George's County was promoting and the relationships that resulted from that effort helped fuel my career. Through those efforts I got to work with Neil Weinstein, Tom Scheuler, Mike Clar and dozens of international, national, and local experts changing the face of stormwater management. I also got to work on Sh_ t with Rod and Jim Kreissl on onsite and decentralized wastewater treatment systems or septic systems. Today I am still immersed in it.

I will really miss Rod. He was a very giving person, a good boss, dedicated father and husband and all around good guy.

Rod was a great husband. Trish and he were married for many years had to be 55???? We all became very good friends over the more than 25 years our children have been married. He was father to my daughter in law, Renee and loved by my son Bob, mutual feelings. We would always try to get together especially over the holidays. The best trip we took together was over Thanksgiving on a cruise, our first cruise, and Rod taught us all the tricks. My husband and he would gamble in the morning and in the night. We didn't miss out on a thing. We also spent a week together at the beach. I'm so glad that we did. Rod was a funny man and we would crack up over his antics and he was just a laid back guy who enjoyed being with his family, and having an occasional drink and a cigar. My husband would join him many times, where they would talk their man talk. Trish and I would enjoy a glass of wine. I wish we had made it to a another cruise, we would discuss it, but the time never allowed it, mainly due to Covid. We hadn't seen them during that entire Covid period and regret that very much. My husband and I thought the world of him. He was a good man who with his wife devoted many years raising foster chidren. Rod was a special kind of person, brother, father, friend and grandpa to all and all loved him back in that same special way. Good bye for now Rod. We will miss playling farkle with you. So many laughs. We will make it to that cruise when we all meet again. Love and peace until we are all reunited. We miss you terribly. June and Lou Clark.

Rod was a great brother, and someone I always looked up too.
He always called me his little brother, and I called him my "big brother", not younger or older. He liked that because I was the taller (from about 15 years old), and we kidded about that. We had some good times recently in Atlantic City with Rod and Trish, and we were hoping for many more,
God had different plans :(. I will miss Big brother dearly and wish him God speed and RIP. It is a sad day for all of Rod's family and friends. One of the last thing he said to me was don't worry I will be alright. He was such a good person, I am sure he is already in the kingdom of heaven with many of his family and friends.
