Richard "Dick" Stanton

Richard, (Dick) Robert Stanton passed away on May 20th, 2022 at the age of 96. He was born in Belvedere, IL on August 13th, 1925 and spent his childhood on smalll farm near Rockford, IL. Shortly after high school he went to serve in WWII, fighting in Germany and Belgium. He earned a Purple Heart, and many other military honors.After the war he returned home and married, Mary Virginia (Ginger) Hogg , and remained married to her for 71 years until her passing in March of 2022. During Richard’s military career he and his family lived in 7 different states, and had one over seas assignment in Casablanca, Morocco. His most prestigious assignment was as a Safety Officer for the Mercury Atlas program in Cape Canaveral, FL. After his military career commenced he worked for Logistics Management Engineering firm and he Ginger settled in Annapolis, MD for over 40 years. Richard loved planting and maintaining his beautiful garden and yard. He often donated his time helping neighbors, and enjoyed baking bread. He loved traveling with his wife, children, and grandchildren - funding many cruises around the world so that they could all travel together. He was a true family man, and took pride in completing every task with diligence and perfection. He enjoyed luncheons in his retirment with Lost Patrol community group. His life’s philosophy was to leave a place better than you found it. He was preceded in death by his son Jeffery, and his wife Ginger. He is survived by his remaining two children (James & Susan), daughter-in-law Tammie, and four beautiful grandchildren and one great grandchild. Richard was an exemplary father and quintessential grandfather & community member. He lived life to the fullest, and reminded us to find joy in everyday life, he will be sorely missed.
