Obituary for Kathryn Nealy Harder

Kathryn “Kate” Nealey Jeffery Harder, 38, of Annapolis, MD died September 4, 2018. She was born October 3, 1979 as the baby of the family and the only daughter.

She graduated from Annapolis Senior High School and attended Anne Arundel County Community College.

She loved to travel and spend time at the beach. She enjoyed visiting Costa Rica, the US Virgin Islands, South Padre Island, the beaches of Delaware and most of all the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii.

Kate loved music. Her happiest times were dancing and singing along to her favorite tunes. She derived great joy from discovering and sharing amazing music with her loved ones, often sending messages about an incredible song, regardless of time of day.

One of her truest loves was that for her niece and nephews. She was attuned to their needs and always had an art project, gift, game, water balloon fight or funny story to entertain and delight them. With a generous heart and uninhibited love, she treated them as her own, leaving her door and her life open to them at any time.

Known by all as a kind soul and compassionate friend, Kate was thoughtful and inclusive. She made friends everywhere she went. Her winning smile, self-deprecating humor and engaging personality drew people to her. She talked to everyone she met and treated each one with respect and as an individual—observing and embodying the golden rule to treat others as you wish to be treated.

She was an artist, who spent countless hours perfecting her art, whether as a gift for a loved one or with the eventual hope of sharing her art with the world. Kate’s tenacity, in art and life, were unparalleled.

Many know that Kate suffered for many of the last years of her life with Lyme’s Disease, its awful effects and seizures. Despite her battle with chronic pain, unanswered questions and unpredictable ailments, Kate never lost her resolve to get better and help others. In her memory, the family asks that in lieu of flowers you make donations to American Lyme Disease Foundation, Inc.

Kate is survived by her parents James Alfred Jeffery, Jr. and Betty Ann Holland Jeffery; her brothers, Christopher and James; her niece and nephews: Elaine, Eli and Emmett, as well as countless other aunties, uncles, cousins and friends.

The world may be a sadder place without Kate’s humor and wit, but Heaven is sure to be enlivened by the entrance of such a beautiful soul.

A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, September 15, 1-3 PM at Lasting Tributes Cremation and Funeral Care, Annapolis, MD, with a memorial service beginning at 3 PM.
