Efrain Benitez Roman, 89, of Caguas, Puerto Rico, passed away on March 20th, 2020 in Baltimore, MD. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM March 27th, 2020 at Lasting Tributes. Due to the current restrictions on group gathering sizes, services will be recorded for others to view. Efrain was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico to Felipe Benitez and Serafina Roman on July 2nd, 1930. He retired from the Puerto Rican Department of Transportation, where he was the Regional Director after 31 years of service. He served in the US Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. For his combat service he was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the Korean Service Medal with One Bronze Star and the United Nations Service Medal. He enjoyed baseball, playing dominoes, relaxing on his hammock and going out to eat his favorite foods plantains (tostones, mofongo or maduros), fried chicken, lobster and carrot cake. He loved listening to music specially salsa classics. Efrain is preceded in death by his parents Felipe and Serafina, his siblings Luis Felipe, Luz Marina, Ramonita, Carmen Esther and Lydia, and his wife Carmen Leticia Nieves Ayala (Letty). Efrain is survived by his children Ana L. Benitez Ramirez and Francisco Burgos; Liliana Benitez Ramirez and Ernesto Ramos; Edgar E. Benitez Ramirez and Reina Gomez; Johany Benitez Rangel (nee Benitez Nieves) and Ryan J. Rangel; grandchildren Lilynette, Frances, Dianne, Natalia, Abdiel, Gabriel, Edgar David, Gabriela, Sebastien Alexander and Jeanine Soleil; great grandchildren Jermaine, Jordan, Dariel and Alexiannys. The family of Efrain wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the Baltimore VA Medical Center, the Loch Raven VA Community Living and Rehabilitation Center and all their staff, Nilda Luz Nieves Ayala (sister-in-law), Carolina Juday and family, Eva Cowels and family, Christina Borman and family, and Brandi Fernandez and family for their help over the last 5+ years taking care of our father.
