Obituary for Doris Gordon

Doris Ernest Gordon was born on May 7, 1924 in Washington, D.C. to Harry and Irene Ernest. She attended D. C. Public Schools and graduated from Eastern High School. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Harry Jr., his wife Diane, as well as many close friends.

In 1945, she married William Gordon and moved to Bladensburg, Maryland to the new suburb of Radiant Valley. When the marriage ended in divorce, she remained in Radiant Valley raising her four children. Upon her retirement, she moved to the Somerset Park Adult Community in Bowie, Maryland. When her health began to fail she resided at Heartfields Assisted Living in Bowie, Md. Her final month was spent at Riva Terrace in Davidsonville, Md where she could be closer to her daughter’s home.

Doris was a secretary for eight years at the Federal Housing Administration and seventeen years at the President’s Council on Physical Fitness. Upon her retirement, Doris remained very active serving as a board member of the Somerset Park Condo Association, traveling in the U.S and abroad, and enjoying time at the beach with her family.

She was a dedicated Bridge and Bingo player and worked the daily Crossword Puzzle. She enjoyed tennis and was an exercise enthusiast. She remained a committed Baptist her whole life.

Surviving her are her four children: Donna Holliday (Rex), Greg Gordon (Matthew), William Gordon (Sandy) and Doug Gordon; seven grandchildren: Kandee Facey (Bobby), Jessie Milburn (Jon), Jamie Gordon, Ryan Holliday (Christina), Marc Holliday, Jennifer Gordon (Don Carlo), and Katie Gordon; seven great grandchildren: Isabella and Ethan Facey, Zander and Sophia Holliday, Greydon, Rigby, and Lilee Carlo; a niece Janet Bowers and two nephews Brad Ernest (Shelly), Scott Ernest (Patty)

A celebration of her life will be held at noon on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at Lasting Tributes 814 Bestgate Rd. Annapolis, MD. Per her request, her ashes will be scattered in the ocean at a later date.
