Obituary for Ross Bartholomew Curro

Ross died at his home in Annapolis during the late afternoon on Sunday, June 10th surrounded by his wife, children and their spouses, the oldest grandson, and niece.

He was born on September 27th, 1936 to Rose and Joseph Curro in Washington, D.C. His very early years were spent living above his family’s grocery store on 14th Street until the family moved to Silver Spring, MD where he attended Montgomery Blair High School.

In 1957 Ross married his high school sweetheart and they were blessed with four daughters, Debbie, Cathy, Cindy, Karen, and a son, Chris. The family resided in the Silver Spring area for many years before moving to Rockville. After a divorce, Ross bought a home in the Inner Harbor in Baltimore to be closer to his children.

On May 1st, 1999 Ross married Nancy and they resided at her home in Olney, MD. They both continued to work – Ross at his accounting firm and Nancy at NIH in Bethesda. In 2003 they retired and moved to their present home in Chesapeake Harbour in Annapolis.

Ross was a “self made man” who, over the years, owned several service stations and his accounting firm, E.K. Williams. He was very successful in many types of real estate ventures which allowed his family and friends many years of enjoyment.

The “Beach House” (as it is known to many for 42 years) in Ocean City, MD, is where Ross and Nancy spent many happy summers with their families and friends. They both loved to travel and were fortunate to be able to tour Italy in 2005. They also had many enjoyable trips to the Caribbean, Florida, and Colorado. While in Annapolis, they spent a great deal of time traveling and dining with his only sister and her husband.

Ross is survived by his wife, Nancy, his children – Debbie Collins, Cathy Roberts (Corey), Cindy Dempsey (Brian), Chris Curro (Susie), Karen Varelli (Steve) and Peter Collins. Grandchildren – Dale (Courtney), Nick, and Carleigh Roberts; Danny, Erica, and Sam Collins; Patrick, Andrew, and Colin Dempsey; Connor (Lindsay) and Trevor Curro; Matt, Caroline, and Addison Varelli.
He is also survived by a devoted niece, Brenda Buzbee, and close family friends, Scot and Glenn and many other great-nieces and nephews. Also survived by Nancy’s three children and son-in-law, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and special family friend, Yonkeo.

He was preceded in death by his only beloved sister, Jo Marie and her husband Bill Buzbee.
A very special thanks to Ross’ caregiver, Teta Neal, who treated him with great kindness and respect during his final illness.

The family would also like to thank the Hospice of the Chesapeake and Regent Healthcare for their support during the past six months. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to:
