Obituary for Betty S. Pitman

Betty spread her wings and took flight on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at the age of 86. She is now able to soar the skies with her beloved birds without pain or assistance. Loving life as she did, it took a bit of time for her to come to terms with the idea of flying instead of walking among her cherished family and many friends. She now joins her husband William N. Pitman, Jr. and son, William N. Pitman, III as part of the flock. While Bett will be sorely missed by her daughter, Teri Baca, son-in-law, David Baca and granddaughter, Alex Baca, she will always have a special place in their hearts and memories.

Betty was born and raised in Baltimore City and moved to Baltimore County in the 1960s. She was a substitute teacher for many years at Colgate Elementary, a teacher’s aide at Dumbarton Middle School in Towson and eventually retired as a media specialist from Carney Elementary. In addition to her day job, she became a US Park Ranger at Hampton Mansion. Bett moved to Severna Park in 1999 to be closer to her family. She made many new friends and became quite active in her church, Our Lady of the Fields in Millersville. For nearly the past 3 years she has been a resident at Spring Arbor Assisted Living in Severna Park where she made even more friends. Bett enjoyed all of the activities and events that Spring Arbor provided.

Her life was filled with kindness, generosity, friendship and the respect of the people she met. The circle of life may have closed for Betty, but inside of that circle there will always be a heart beating with love - love of people, cats, pasta, chocolate and ice cream.

It’s the laughter we will remember.
